This section is dedicated to regional governments' authorities that deal with biodiversity information for decision making or for provinding a public service. One of the most important topics in this matter is the duplication of efforts -developing simliar sollutions without coordination with other initiatives- or the need to integrate different sources of information -either a biodiversity information source or related to it (uses, habitats, climate, etc.).
This was the background for the First Meeting on Biodiversity Information and Local Environmental Governments where technicians from different regions met for the first time to share opinions and establish future collaborations. The main goal was to settle agreements and projects that would result in better land use planning and better social service. The GBIF role and interest in this context reminded the same: "to provide free and open online access to global biodiversity data supporting at the same time scientific research, conservation and sustainable development". The success of this meeting encouraged the Coordination Unit to organize a Second Call that took place in November 2010. Here you can find all the information related two both meetings as well as other resources that can be useful for local governments that deal with biodiversity information.
