Spanish Data Provision to the GBIF Network

More than 62 Spanish Institutes and projects participating in GBIF have set up 160 online biodiversity databases giving access to 7,547,500 biodiversity records at this moment (January 2012). The continuous efforts made by the people in charge of these collections and databases increase these figures frequently. Better check http://www.gbif.es/datos or http://data.gbif.org

Databases Connected to the GBIF Network

Last updated: January the 27th, 2012

All the Spanish databases currently shared in the GBIF Network are included in this list, together with the name of the centre or institution those databases are associated with. In the column on the right the total number of records shared are displayed. If you click on that number, you will be redirected to the new Data Portal of GBIF International data.gbif.org, where you will be offered further information about that resource. Changes in the amount of records shared since the last update are marked in the following way: increase, decrease, = no change, * new database, x temporally not available.

 Data Related to other Countries

Last update: February the 19th, 2010

Among the diverse GBIF goals, data repatriation to countries of origin stands out with special importance: OCB working programme (Outreach and Capacity Building) has made noticeable progress in this area, including the publication of a Study on Data-sharing with Countries of Origin.

Analyzing Spanish present data provision to the GBIF Network, we note that a 10% of the records shared are related to other countries. The most noticeable contributions are related to neighbour countries, but there are also several interesting contributions for American, African and Asian countries.

Map of Primary Data Information Provided from Spain

In these two maps you can see depicted the percentage of data related to the different countries included in the data contribution to the GBIF Network by Spanish providers. The first map shows sharing observation/specimen data, and the second one only shows specimen data.

Spain shares data related to 212 countries, but only 71 of them exceed the 0,1% limit represented in these maps.
