| COLLABORATION WITH THE ARGENTINEAN SYSTEM OF BIOLOGICAL DATA (SNDB) - 2010 |
| |

In March 2010, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Produtive Innovation carryed out the SNBD National Training workshop 2010-2011. The conference involved the collaboration of Dr. Francisco Pando de la Hoz, head of the Spanish GBIF Node. Members of the Advisory Groups of the National System of Biological Information (SNDB), computer experts from different institutions belonging to SNDB, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation attended the workshop.
An assessment on SNDB was conducted during the workshop which allows to analyzed their strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, with the collaboration of Dr. Pando, a training and development plan was designed for the SNDB 2010-2011. This program will be submitted to the Advisory Council and the authorities of the Ministry. |

2008 Pilot project to establish the Tanzania Biodiversity Information Facility (TanBIF) |
| |

This 3-year (2007-2009) pilot project helped Tanzania to establish the Tanzania Biodiversity Information Facility (TanBIF). With the establishment of TanBIF, Tanzania has become a regional leader in using biodiversity informatics to underpin sustainable development.
The Setting up a GBIF Node Workshop that took place in February the 25th - March the 1st,
2008 in Dar es Sallam was one of the activities included in this project. Francisco Pando (Node manager of GBIF.ES) and Juan Bello (GBIF.ORG) presented the theoretical sessions. The main goal of the workshop was advising GBIF Node managers about:
- how to settle up a GIBF Node,
- how to identify priorities and needs,
- how to serve them,
- what kind of activities should be established,
- how to create agreements and collaborations, and
- how to implement a training plan, etc.
All the information related to the workshop is available at: http://www.gbif.es/formaciondetalles.php?IDForm=52 |

- Dados da rede GBIF: o protocolo DiGIR
Lisbon (Portugal), November 6-7, 2006.
Participants in this workshop attended conferences about issues related to biodiversity information: intellectual property rights, data quality, sensible information, possible uses and available tools.
On November the 7th, Silvia Lusa from the Spanish GBIF node gave a workshop about the exchange protocol DiGIR. This activity included the installation and setup of the DiGIR provider software by the participants.

Digitization of Cuban Pteridophytes Collections |
|

Managing Intstitution: Instituto de Ecología y Sistemática, Ciudad de La Habana, Cuba.
The aim of this project was digitizing the three main collections of Cuban ferns, which house about 15000 specimens, covering a period from 1859 to the present, collected in all the Cuban territory. Considering that the taxonomy of Cuban fern flora is being currently revised for the first time as a whole, this project would contribute to make this revision public reaching higher interested community. The outcome data and images would be kept in the "Centro Nacional de Biodiversidad" (National Biodiversity Center), CeNBio, located at the Institute of Ecology and Systematics, being the Technical Focal Point of the Cuban CHM, with copies in the National Botanic Garden and The Ferns Garden, in Santiago de Cuba.
The results of this project were shaped into 13.724 new records in the GBIF network, served using the data hosting service of GBIF Spain. New records will be available soon, together with digital images of the specimens stored in the Herbarium of the National Botanical Garden of Cuba.
