Call for nominations for the 2012 Ebbe Nielsen Prize

The Ebbe Nielsen Prize will be awarded for the eleventh time in 2012 to a person or small team that is demonstrating excellence in combining biodiversity informatics and biosystematics research. The Prize consists of €30,000, and is intended to allow the recipient(s), who may reside in any country, to engage in biosystematics/biodiversity informatics research outside his/her/their country of residence for a period of 3-6 months. E-Learning Workshop on Data Quality in biodiversity databases.

Subscription period is now open for the upcoming Online Workshop on Data Quality in biodiversity databases that will take place from February 27th to March 11th, 2012. This workshop is addressed to people who work with biological databases: both those working in natural history collections and those working with other biodiversity-related databases. The principles of data quality will be revised together with methods to increase this quality in our databases. The Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid Vascular Plant Herbarium (MA): 534.404 records in GBIF

The Vascular Plant Herbarium (MA) of the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid (CSIC) has exceeded this December half a million records shared through the GBIF network. After the last update, 534,404 records are currently available for viewing online through GBIF data portal. The Royal Botanical Garden thus becomes the fourth largest Spanish provider that share biodiversity information on the Internet.

Se hacen públicos dos informes hasta ahora de distribución restringida cuyo objetivo es dar a conocer qué datos se publican en GBIF.ES y su uso potencial. Estos documentos son relevantes para conocer las políticas de digitalización y para poner en contexto la información disponible en España.

Draft Training Plan for 2012

The Coordination Unit of the Spanish GBIF Node has issued its 2012 ANNUAL TRAINING PLAN. This plan includes 11 courses/workshops on diverse subjects. New topics will be tackled this year as: first call of an Anvanced Workshop about Herbar/Zoorbar focused on transactions; new E-Learning Workshop on Sensitive Data Management to study when it is not advisable to publish all the available information about species or collection specimens; fisrt call about Scientific Audiovisual Production for Biodiversity Studies; and new Workshop on Standars and computer architecture for environmental management whose target audience are environmental managers and whose goal is to address both conceptual and practical aspects of informatics aimed to record, publish and exchange environmental data.
