This MoC provides the basis for both projects to collaborate together to develop and share critical biodiversity informatics infrastructure and information, in order to further their respective mandates. The complementarities and commonalities of both initiatives match so nicely that it is a unique opportunity for nodes to work better on making biodiversity data accessible and used for the benefit of our societies.

http://www.gbif.es/ficheros/MoC_GBIF-LifeWatch.pdf

http://www.gbif.es/ficheros/MoC_GBIF-LifeWatch.pdf

[News] GBIF Network serves more than 200 million records.

June the 23rd, 2010.

GBIF Network serves more than 200 million records.

GBIF has now made accessible on line more than 200 million primary biodiversity data. In 2009, 35 new data publishers registered to the GBIF network and the total number of accessible records increased by 20%. The current rate of data mobilization continues to show linear growth in 2010. Regarding Spain, 54 Institutes and projects participating in GBIF have set up 140 online biodiversity databases giving access to over 6 million records. The full list of data publishers can be found at www.gbif.org/participation/data-publishers/who-is-publishing/. In the summer of 2005, an international expert group was brought together for a workshop to define and produce a new vision and roadmap of the evolution, challenges and potential of computer science and computing in scientific research in the next fifteen years. The resulting document, Towards 2020 Science, sets out the challenges and opportunities arising from the increasing synthesis of computing and the sciences. In particular this report focuses on the biological sciences as it is in this area where the greatest impact of the computer science will be felt. The information, findings and opinions contained in this document are still totally valid.

http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/cambridge/projects/towards2020science/downloads/T2020S_ReportA4.pdf

http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/cambridge/projects/towards2020science/downloads/T2020S_ReportA4.pdf

[News] Terms used in bionomenclature

May the 28th, 2010.

Terms Used in Bionomenclature glossary by Prof. David Hawksworth and published by GBIF
