The Biomaratón Madrid 2018 ends in MediaLab Prado with the celebration of the Identificatona, an ID Party

In May the 3rd, 2018, we celebrated an ID Party (so-called Identificatona in spanish), in the auditorium of Medialab Prado (a citizens’ laboratory managed by the Madrid City Council that works as a meeting place for producing open cultural projects). This was the final activity of the Biomaratón de Madrid, as part of the City Nature Challenge 2018.

More than 20 Natusfera users and specialists in some biological group attended the activity and were identifying and validating some of the the nearly 7,000 observations of almost 800 different species registered in the metropolitan area of Madrid. Ángel Fernández Cancio (INIA) was one of the most relevant participants in this event, being the most active contributor during the Biomaratón Madrid, with roughly 1,400 observations and 400 species. There were also participants from research centers, universities, NGOs among others.

Javier Grijalbo – a writer and well known naturalist in Madrid – was our guest speaker during the Identificatona giving a presentation about the vegetal and landscape diversity in the Madrid province. The attendees worked together and exchanged their experience about taxonomy from 4 to 7:30 p.m, with a 30 minutes break for a snack served by the organization. Comments around this activity were very positive and participants highlighted the usefulness, originality, and enjoyment of the Identificatona.

Finally, 1,231 observations reached the research grade which means around the 20% of the total observations registered in the metropolitan area of Madrid.
