Materials of the GBIF.ES Workshop on R available

The first edition of the GBIF.ES Workshop “Optimizing the use of R in research: new tools for programming, managing, and visualizing biodiversity data” was held on May 29-30, 2018 in the Royal Botanic Garden-CSIC.

The workshop provided an introduction to R and RStudio, an overview on how to visualize data in R using functions like ggplot, and gave participants hands-on experience using rgbif and ALA4R libraries to manage data from GBIF and the Atlas of Living Australia. Alejandro González (RJB-CSIC), the main instructor of the workshop, also showed some tools for publishing documentation such as GitHub and Rmarkdown.

Cristina Villaverde (GBIF.ES) and Miguel Vega (GBIF.ES) introduced the workshop and presented the GBIF network to the participants.

28 participants attended the course from a wide range of organizations such as universities, NGOs, citizen science groups or public administrations. All the documentation used during the workshop can be downloaded here.
