Facilitating the engagement of Ibero-American community

Production of key learning and promotional resources or their adaptation to the national or regional context is relevant to facilitate the engagement of different communities. In this sense, GBIF has feature resources in English to support the GBIF community. However, we identified that few resources are in Spanish (656 vs 53), an official language in 21 countries (442 million people approx.) and most of them participating in GBIF Network. We believe that have adequate supporting documentation, in an appropriate language, increases the interest and appropriation within our own national communities.

In order to respond to the call made by GBIF, the nodes involved in this project have identified the need to produce and adapt key resources to facilitate the engagement of the Colombian and Spanish communities in the GBIF Network.

This project aims:

  • Produce key learning and promotional resources related data publishing and access (occurrences data, checklist data and sample-based data), according to the dynamics of our national communities.
  • Promote the publishing and mobilizations of biodiversity data via GBIF with an emphasis in the new approaches to data licensing and endorsement.
  • Maximize the impact of GBIF in the two national communities and therefore in the whole Ibero-American community.
