OpenPSD – Engage and promote the private sector in open biodiversity data publication

This project is co-funded by the GBIF Capacity Enhancement Support Programme (CESP) in its 2019 call. It is aimed to engage and promote biodiversity data publication and use by the private sector through workshops, documentation targeted to the private sector and mentoring. To achieve this goal, this project will use the previous experience of Norway and Portugal, in which private companies are already GBIF publishers. Colombia, France, and Spain will, as mentees, benefit to develop their strategies to engage private companies in their countries. Outputs and deliverables will be reusable by other GBIF nodes.

Due to the exceptional situation generated by the COVID-19, the project was extended to January 31st, 2021.

The main activities of this project will be:

  • The development of information and case studies on identifying potential publishers and support in-house documentation and authorization by companies.
  • The development of promotional materials to engage private companies.
  • The organization of two workshops, in Portugal and Norway, in order to expand knowledge about GBIF within the private sector in the country and promote discussion about motivations for data publication.
  • The organization of three workshops, in Colombia, France, and Spain, in order to facilitate engagement of new private sector companies. It will also help to identify motivation in data publishing.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we only organised one onsite workshop hosted by Norway. The rest of the participant countries (Portugal, Colombia, France and Spain) adapted their workshops to online mode.
